I finally got around to reading this on Oscar night. The article was way more interesting than the telecast.

Couldn't agree more. Especially in a world in which moviegoers deem blockbusters under 120 minutes an automatic loss, I feel like the beauty of concise, short but sweet films is lost beneath a bloated status quo of film. And while I really liked Licorice Pizza, I agree that there were many points that should've just been cut.

I agree that a lot of movies nowadays are way too long. When I see that a movie has a runtime over 2 hours, (which is almost every movie) I am slightly annoyed. But I can tolerate longer movies if, as you suggested, the prolonged duration is warranted. I also find it interesting that you pointed out how many Batman movies do we really need. As a Batman fan, I think that's a great question, but for me, the more important question is: how many on-screen depictions of the Joker do we really need....
