Great story! Jaffe and his irreverent cohorts at Mad Magazine were the “gateway drug” of clever, subversive humor for millions of kids of a certain age.
Good stuff, as always! My favorite Mad was just after the 1960 Election. 1961 was an “upside down year” and so was the Mad: one way if JFK won, the other way if Nixon won. Brilliant!
Such a great story. At the height of the New Yorkers are rude period in the 80s I was unable to find a place I was looking for. Looking lost a guy walked up to me and gruffly asked Where ya goin? I told him the address and he said That’s not an easy find and proceeded to walk me a half dozen blocks out of his way. He turned around as soon as he pointed to the door. I yelled out thanks over the Manhattan traffic. He raised his hand but didn’t turn around.
